Arun posted this meme to his LiveJournal but very cryptically said that he wasn’t going to tag anyone, because the people he’d tag aren’t on LiveJournal. Hah! Why should that stop anyone? I’ll tag myself.
List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now. Then tag 7 other people to see what they’re listening to.
So, here you have it. For the most part, these are on here because I just really enjoy the lyrics, and the music seems to me to match well (I don’t read music or play any instruments, so I can’t really back up that opinion with technicalities):
“Happy Kid,” Nada Surf – Let Go
Can’t say much for the lyrics, they’re very simple, but this song makes me happy when it comes on. It’s a fun, catchy tune.
“All This Useless Beauty,” Elvis Costello – Extreme Honey
For me, his newer stuff has been hit or miss — I like his older stuff. This has always been a favorite EC tune of mine.
“There’s Always Someone Cooler Than You,” Ben Folds – Sunny 16 EP
He’s right! Why worry about it?
“You and the Clouds Will Still be Beautiful,” XTC – Wasp Star (Apple Venus Vol. 2)
Lovely tune, lovely lyrics, which at first you don’t realize have a little political message.
“Denver 6 a.m.,” Peter Mulvey – Kitchen Radio
I’m not sure what it is about this one that I like, but there is some great imagery in the lyrics.
“Bargain,” The Who – Who’s Next?
I still like this, though I hate that it was on a car commercial. I prefer this sort of love song to sappy “I will always love you” type stuff.
“Au Contraire,” They Might Be Giants – The Spine
Hilarious lyrics! “Jodie Foster held two pair, Bach had three of a kind, Ghandi said ‘with my full house, I will blow your mind!'”
Tag seven people you say? Hmm. Let me see if I think I have seven regular readers who also blog and aren’t Arun:
Mr. Darius, Sparkle J, Marielle, Kathy (this tag is paused until after the wedding), Matt (who is a blogging delinquent) . . . uhmm. Hmm. I guess I can’t tag Flickr contacts, eh? Oh well, five is good enough. Feel free to ignore the tag or nominate yourself if you read regularly and I am not aware of this. I’m not sure who all (seven) of my Bloglines subscribers are. I could guess or tag people whose blogs I read, but that just seems presumptuous.
